This garden project is at The Apperley Centre which is The Shrubberies School Post 16 centre. We have 6 raised beds in total. Currently we have one bed dedicated to seasonal vegetables, and one is a strawberry bed. 2 other smaller beds are used for bigger vegetable plants such as pumpkins and courgettes.
The final 2 beds have just been raised and filled to allow for students’ wheelchair access. We intend to make one into a herb garden and the other into a cut flower/ complimentary planting bed.
Most plants are grown by students from seed or sourced from their work experience placement at Dundry nurseries. This year students are sourcing and cutting their own bean canes at Westonbirt arboretum as part of their work related learning, and we also have chickens in the garden.
All produce is sold by the students to raise money for Action Aid (this year’s chosen charity), or used in cookery sessions.
